Young drivers must improve skills, says insurerYoung drivers should continue to hone their driving skills, even after they have passed their test, one insurer has recommended.

Norwich Union has highlighted the importance of younger British drivers participating in post-test driving schemes to improve their road safety.

By taking their advice, the company says younger drivers may be able to secure cheaper motor insurance premiums.

The Driving Standards Agency had set up Pass Plus, a scheme which allows new drivers to develop their road skills after passing their test.

"We would recommend ongoing and regular training for new drivers. It can help them with their road safety skills," said a Norwich Union spokesperson.

The representative continued: "We give a ten per cent discount for people that have taken the Pass Plus scheme."

"A lot of insurers will be offering some kind of discount."

According to figures from the Department for Transport, road casualties were down four per cent.
