RBS wastes cash on partying

December 1, 2008

Just weeks after taking billions of pounds from the government and from the public purse by way of a bailout, RBS has apparently thrown a lavish party for executives costing thousands of pounds at one of the country’s most lavish and prestigious venues. The news outraged many, who couldn’t believe that the bank had wasted money in this way after taking taxpayer’s cash to bail it out.

The bank threw the lavish event at the prestigious Blenheim Palace, and the cost of the event is said to have come to around £30,000. Worse still, the news of the party erupted just a week or so after employees at the bank were treated to a £300,000 lavish party at a five star hotel in Edinburgh.

An official from the Lib Dem party was outraged by the enormous amount of cash that the bank has been throwing on parties. He said: ‘The banking world does not seem to realise that people out there are suffering. While they dance the night away, others are desperately trying to pay mortgages. It is a completely inappropriate use of what is taxpayers’ money.’

Guests were put up in a £200 a night hotel following the bash, according to the report. One guest who was asked about the party defended the bank stating: ‘They still have to keep on going. I saw heads of state last night on television with a glass of champagne in their hands. Life goes on.’
