Millions to splash out on 2008 holidays

December 31, 2007

Millions to splash out on 2008 holidaysMillions of Brits are set to splash out on a holiday in the early part of the New Year, according to new research.

A survey from Sainsbury’s Bank revealed that an estimated 12 million people plan to book a holiday between Christmas and February 2008.

However, there is evidence of a post-Christmas pinch being felt by some, with a projected average of just £655 being spent by each person.

On the subject of travel insurance, head of Sainsbury’s Travel Insurance, Steve Johnson, commented: "It’s a great time of year for planning ahead and booking a trip early as there are usually many bargains to be had.

"However, while it’s easy to get excited about shopping around for destinations, resorts and even flights, travel insurance should not be ignored or accepted as merely an add-on."

It was found that over a quarter of those who intend to go away over the first two months of 2008 will acquire their travel insurance through the company with which they booked their holidays.
