Drivers 'must keep insurers updated'
December 27, 2007
Motorists heading abroad to celebrate New Year should keep their car insurance providers up to date.
Consumers should ensure that their cover is extended before setting off on driving holidays, according to advice from More Than.
The car insurance provider has suggested that the further away drivers take their cars, the more expensive cover can be.
"What customers should do is, if in the UK they have comprehensive cover and they want the same level of cover when they’re driving abroad, they need to phone up their insurer, and the insurer will issue what’s known as a foreign use extension," said motor account manager Keith Maxwell.
He added that cover varies from one provider to the next, so insurance customers should opt for the product most suited to their own needs.
Research from the Association of British Insurers reveals that two million Brits take their cars overseas each year.
