ATM record could be brokenA record amount of cash could be drawn out from ATMs this month (December), a new study has revealed.

Research from Sainsbury’s Bank has determined that as much as £10 billion pounds could be withdrawn from ATMs in the UK over the last month 2007.

In all, 7.59 million transactions will be made each day over the month, 1.14 million more per day than 2003.

Sainsbury’s head of ATMs, Alex Blake, commented: "People are more reliant on ATMs than ever before and the peak time for cash withdrawals is December.

"This helps explain why there has been a 29 per cent increase in the number of ATMs between December 2003 and June 2007."

According to Sainsbury’s Bank, £241,708 is withdrawn from British cash machines every minute.
