Using your credit card this Christmas? If so beware of theives!
December 23, 2006
If you are like many other people, you will no doubt have left your Christmas shopping until the last minute. If so not only will the whole experience be extremely stressful but it will also leave you more at risk of credit card theft and fraud.
According to studies the 23rd of December is the day that most credit cards are stolen throughout the year. This is simply because we are not paying attention to what we are doing. Our minds are completely on the Christmas rush and we are so wrapped up worrying about what we are going to get and whether we have forgotten anything that we do slip up.
Thieves simply watch and wait for us to make those wrong moves and that is all the opportunity they need to steal our cards. It could be that you are drawing money out and you accidentally leave your card in the machine or by the side of the machine whilst you put your money away. A thief spots this opportunity and they often manage to get away with your credit card.
Another way thieves strike is at the checkout of a supermarket. They could be watching over your shoulder whilst you are thinking of other things and you might not necessarily notice.
Most people these days use their credit cards for everything and Christmas shopping is one of them. Whilst we may think that we are completely safe when it comes to credit card theft, things can and do happen no matter who you are. So, always keep an eye on where your card is whilst you are out and try and be aware of everyone around you, especially when you are entering pin numbers into machines.
You can never be too careful and if it means the difference between looking a little paranoid or having your Christmas ruined, which one would you rather choose?
