Supermarkets continue food price wars
November 12, 2008
With the level of inflation on food having soared over the past twelve months many consumers have ditched the big name supermarkets in favour of the smaller discount chains in order to try and save some money on their weekly or monthly shop during what has become an extremely challenging time in terms of finances.
This has resulted in many of the big name supermarkets slashing the prices on some of their food and household products in order to not only compete against one another but also in a bid to try and win back customers from the discount chains. A recent report has indicated that the food price war amongst the big name supermarkets is still continuing.
One of the supermarket giants, Tesco, has slashed the prices on many of its products, and has also introduced a new discount range of products to try and help consumers to save money. Another of the big name supermarkets, Asda, has promised that it will slash the price on over five thousand products over the autumn.
Rival supermarket Sainsbury’s has also revealed that it is launching its own branded discount goods as well. However, in the meantime discount stores such as Lidl, Aldi, and Netto continue to see their sales figures rise as more and more shoppers turn to them for cut price products.
