How you can avoid having to move home
November 26, 2007
Many people in the UK decide to move home every year, and this can be for one of a wide range of reasons. Of course, there are cases where people have to move home due to relocation of work, moving nearer to family or other unavoidable reasons.
However, there are also many people that decide to move home because they need a larger property and want to enjoy increased space. It is important to remember that if you are looking to move simply to enjoy more space then there are other options available to you.
Although moving home can be very exciting for some people, such as those that are moving into their first home or those moving from rented accommodation into their own property, for many others it can be a time consuming, expensive, and troublesome process.
When you move home you have to uproot your whole family, leave behind neighbours and friends that live nearby, get used to a new property, and deal with the many expenses that come with moving home.
This includes legal fees, removal fees, arranging a larger mortgage for a bigger property, stamp duty, HIPs, and various other costs. All of this can add up to a fortune. On top of this there is the time consumption involved in moving home, as well as the through of having to get settled again in another street or area, and into a new property.
If you need more space to accommodate your needs or for a larger family then there are other steps that you can take to increase the size of your property or to simply increase space, and this may save you the time, hassle, and money of having to move home and uproot your loved ones.
Of course it will still cost you money to increase the size of your home, but in the long run you can recoup the money that you spend in part of even in full in some cases through increasing the value of your home.
One effective way of increasing the size of your property is to get permission for an extension, which means that you can add extra space both upstairs and downstairs. This can include adding rooms such as a study, extra bedrooms, additional kitchen space, and more.
You can even add an extra bathroom if this is an issue depending on the size of your family, although additional bathrooms will not necessarily add value to your property. An extension can improve the appearance of your home in terms of size, and can also offer increased practicality and space to suit your needs or accommodate your larger family.
Another form of extending your property is to add a conservatory, and this can provide a wonderful place to relax, particularly in the summer time. You can also use it for other purposes however, such as using it as a study with some additional heating in the wonder to keep you warm.
A conservatory is often considered a place to relax in the summer, but you can use this room for anything from entertaining to studying or using as a games room.
If you don’t want to extend your property as such you can look at other options, one of which is increasing space through renovation of unused or wasted existing space. Many people have a room that is used simply to store junk, and it is a good idea to carry out works and make the room habitable, which means that you immediately have extra space.
Another popular solution is to carry out a loft conversion, which can provide you with an extra room that is then commonly used as a study or an extra bedroom.
It is important to remember that in order to benefit from having this sort of work carried out on your property you need to make sure that the job is carried out to professional, high quality standards, and you should therefore use quality contractors that can provide quality workmanship.
Shoddy work could actually reduce the value of your home, and will not provide you with the same level of practicality and pleasure that you would get with quality work.
The ideal way to fund this type of work is with a homeowner loan, which is a loan that is secured against your home. These homes are offered based on the level of equity you have in your property, and you may be able to recoup some or all of the cost of the loan by increasing your property’s value through the works carried out.
A number of lenders offer this type of loan, and you can get some very competitive deals, so you should be able to find an affordable loan with which to increase the size or space in your property.
