Danger of Brits' untidy cars

Danger of Brits' untidy carsThe messy state of many Brits’ cars is not only uneasy on the eye, but is also a danger to themselves and others, a recent study has shown.

Research from Liverpool Victoria (LV=) has found that as many as 24 million people in the UK are driving around in cluttered, dirty cars, which could pose a safety risk and may lead to being forced to make a claim on their motor insurance.

Some 55 per cent of drivers admitted not checking their windscreens, 61 per cent don’t inspect their wing mirrors and 81 per cent depart on a journey without running an eye over their headlights.

Emma Holyer, LV= motor spokesperson, explained the risks: "Keeping loose items in the car could lead to avoidable accidents such as rubbish getting trapped under the pedals whilst you are driving.

"Not to mention the fact that items such as mp3 players, clothes and sunglasses may attract all sorts of unwanted attention that could put your car at risk of theft."

Over a third of those quizzed (36 per cent) said that they did not care about the appearance of their cars.
