Brits leaving expensive items on showBrits are leaving pricey items in their homes on show, putting them at risk of thieves, says one insurer.

Liverpool Victoria (LV=) has revealed the extent of the problem, with results from a study showing a huge number of people are putting their possessions at risk and could end up having to make a claim on their home insurance policies.

Data from the LV= survey found that 59 per cent of those quizzed have a television set which is viewable from outside their property.

Furthermore, 18 per cent inadvertently advertise antiques and collectables to passers by.

"Burglary is frequently committed by opportunist criminals who see a quick way of making a fast buck," commented Milliner of LV=.

He continued: "Thieves are much more likely to target your property if they can see items worth stealing and high value electronic items are just the kind of thing they are looking for."

Burglary and theft represents 36 per cent of all crime, according to the Home Office.
