Insurance provider American Express has announced that it will be offering more "present protection" through its household insurance cover this Christmas.
According to the company, British consumers will spend over £460 each this festive season, with an average of £260 of this going on presents.
American Express will be increasing its household insurance level by ten per cent from December 1st to January 15th, which it claims will help householders protect the gifts that they have bought and will be receiving.
Joanne Field, marketing manager for American Express insurance services, pointed out that Christmas is traditionally a popular time with burglars who are aware of the goods that will be stored in people’s homes.
"Our home insurance customers have increased protection across the Christmas and New Year period for all their gifts and provisions," she added.
"We would encourage all householders to review the level of home contents insurance cover is adequate every year, particularly around the Christmas and New Year period."
