Online travel insurance warning

October 29, 2007

Online travel insurance warningSome deals from online travel insurance providers offer minimal cover for lost money, luggage and medical expenses, BIBA has highlighted.

The British Insurance Brokers Association has pointed out that a lot of travel insurance packages available on the web do not cover many holidaymakers to the extent that they would expect.

Travellers have been urged to check that they are covered on all the valuables they take with them overseas, as well as anything they may purchase while away.

BIBA’s technical and corporate affairs executive, Graham Trudgill said: "We also see that some of the cover for the products online is incredibly low - very low limits on your money, on your baggage, on your medical expenses, things like that.

"So be very careful what you’re comparing things against out there. Some of the online policies are very cheap and not that good."

Research conducted by Halifax Travel Insurance revealed that the average personal baggage claim goes up by 48 per cent in January.
