Give a little back with your credit card
October 5, 2007
There are many different types of credit cards available to UK consumers these days, with something to suit most needs and preferences. Credit cards offer a range of benefits including the ease and convenience of being able to spend on plastic instead of carrying cash around or having to write cheques, and the flexibility of being able to spread repayments. They also offer additional benefits depending on what sort of credit card you opt for, such as interest free periods or rewards.
There are some credit cards that enable cardholders to give a little back by using their card to make purchases in the usual way. These cards enable the consumers to enjoy the ease and convenience of credit card spending coupled with the ability to contribute to certain causes or institutions without having to lift a finger other than to use their credit cards in the usual way.
Amongst the credit cards that allow you to spend whilst contributing to a special cause are charity credit cards, football credit cards, and green credit cards, which are becoming increasingly popular amongst environmentally conscious consumers. These cards often offer other benefits as well, such as interest free periods on balance transfers or purchases and special interest rates.
Charity credit cards
Charity credit cards are perfect for those that want to give to a good cause but don’t have the time to arrange donations or do not want to make donations from their actual salaries. We all like to give a little back to a charitable cause but with today’s fast pace of life and busy lifestyles it can be difficult to remember, and important as this issue is it often gets pushed to the back burner. With a charity credit card you can enjoy supporting a cause that is close to your heart without having to think about it, because your credit card company will make donations on your behalf. All you have to do is spend on your card in the usual way and the rest will be done for you.
You can get charity credit cards to support all sorts of charities, such as animal charities, the National Foundation, medical institutions such as the British Heart Foundation, and more. You can browse a range of charity cards in order to choose one that fits in with your needs as well as your preference in terms of the charity that it contributes to. The charity credit card works a little like a cash back credit card, in that a percentage of every pound that you spend on the card is donated to charity. However, the charity often receives a lump sum donation when you make a successful application for the card and open your account, and some also receive additional yearly lump sum donations for each year that the account is open and in use.
The amount donated to charity can vary from one credit card to another. You will also find that, like other cards, the interest charged on the card can vary, as can any special offers such as interest free periods. If you tend to repay your balance in full each month then you can benefit most from these cards, as you will be able to do your bit for charity but you won’t get hit with high interest charges on your spending.
Football credit cards
If you are a football fan then you can enjoy making donations to your favourite football team whilst spending on your credit card in the usual way. There are credit cards available for the major premiership teams, and if your favourite team is amongst them then you can enjoy lending financial support through your credit card.
Like the charity based cards your favourite football club will receive donations based on the amount that you spend on your card, as well as a lump sum donation when you open your account with some football credit cards. With these credit cards you can feel as though you are giving that little extra support to your favourite football team and all you need to do is use your credit card in the same way that you usually would.
Green credit cards
Green credit cards are becoming increasingly popular and are now offered by a number of credit card providers. Environmental issues have been towards the top of the political agenda for some time, and these credit cards enable the more environmentally conscious to contribute to green causes through using their credit card for spending.
As with other charity credit cards you can contribute to green causes through using your card, with donations based on the amount that you spend. Moreover, some of these cards offer special discounts on green products and preferential interest rates on environmentally friendly purchases.
