Bonfire night warning

October 24, 2007

Bonfire night warningThose planning a bonfire night celebration at their own property have been warned that the unfortunate event of a partygoer becoming injured could lead to the burden of "huge financial costs" if not appropriately covered for public liability on a home insurance policy.

Confused have advised homeowners to check their home insurance packages prior to making a bonfire or setting off fireworks.

Managing director Debra Williams said: "Although it is a legal requirement for homeowners to have buildings insurance covering the house and its land against accidental damage, contents insurance is still optional.

"Around bonfire night we’d always advise people to protect their contents with proper cover whether hosting a party or not, even if it means shopping around for a deal at short notice."

Ms Williams urged homeowners to take the time to "check the small print" of policies to clarify exactly what cover they have before throwing a bonfire bash.

"For the perfect Guy Forks celebration, ensure reasonable care and caution is practiced and most of all, have fun," she concluded.
