ABI gives insurance reduction tips
October 26, 2007
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has put forward some tips to help homeowners reduce their insurance premiums.
Jonathan French, the assistant director of media relations, said that there are a number of "proactive" steps a homeowner can take to make their property more secure, thus more likely to receive a favourable quote.
"People can do things like ensure they have good quality locks on their doors and windows, they can ensure that when they leave the property unoccupied they can ensure that all the doors and windows are locked and secured," he said.
Mr French also recommended gaining a number of quotes from different insurers before settling on one option.
"On a wider basis, by shopping around within the home insurance market, which is very competitive, they can find really good deals out there."
According to the ABI, 75 per cent of all households in the UK have some kind of contents insurance and 65 per cent take out building insurance.
