Multi-currency ATMs launched by Halifax
September 20, 2007
Halifax has announced the introduction of the first multi-currency ATMs in the country, which will appear at selected branches of the bank across the UK by the end of the year.
Customers will be able to draw out dollars and euros, as well as pounds, from cash machines, which will accept Visa and Mastercard.
The first cash point of its kind in the country, a multi-currency ATM has opened in Broad Old Street in the City of London.
"Our customers have told us that the immediate availability of foreign currency would be a valuable addition to the wide range of services we already offer, and we plan to roll out more of these multi-currency ATMs in the near future," said Halifax’s head of travel money Nigel Turkington.
More multi-currency machines are planned in numerous locations around the capital and in Basingstoke, Dumfries, Chester, Southampton and Windsor.
Mastercard recently introduced the PayPass system, allowing customers to touch-and-go with their debit or credit cards when paying for bills.
