Car dealers least trusted with personal data
September 25, 2007
Brits have singled out car dealers as the most untrustworthy when it comes to looking after personal data, the results of a new survey suggest.
Experian’s Credit Expert identity fraud protection service conducted a study which revealed that 46 per cent of those asked did not trust car salespeople to securely store their details.
Respondents also expressed distrust in internet retailers and insurance companies, with 33 per cent and 34 per cent respectively saying they didn’t feel their information was safe.
CreditExpert managing director Jim Hodgkins said: "It is clear that millions of people are worried about data security and want organisations large or small, and public or private, to take action.
"People should not have to wait for a data breach to happen before action is taken - they should have the power to monitor their personal information hands-on and nip any potential attempts at identity theft in the bud," he advised.
Experian boasts clients in over 65 countries and annual sales of over £1.9 billion.
