Brits leave cash lying aroundBrits are leaving cash lying around the house, with large amounts of money stashed away in household objects, a new study has revealed.

Research from Cornhill Direct shows that nearly three quarters of those quizzed admitted to storing money around the home, £127 was the average amount thought to be hid in various places in homeowners properties.

Drawers, tins, pockets and cupboards were the most common locations for cash storage, while one participant in the survey admitted to using the freezer to deposit notes.

"Our home contents policy provides protection for money kept in the house, but it is never a good idea to keep large sums in the house," said Cornhill Direct spokesman Mark Bishop.

Other data included the finding that 58 per cent of the people asked had a stash their partner knew about, while 36 per cent had a money reserve only they were aware of.
