Poor result for AA in breakdown survey

August 29, 2008

A recent survey involving a number of well known and lesser known breakdown recovery firms has suggested that one of the better known breakdown recovery firms, the AA, has performed fairly poorly compared to other in polls.

Around 32,000 drivers were polled as part of the survey, and out of the eleven breakdown firms that were surveyed the AA only came in at number seven. Amongst the areas that were reviewed were service, presentation, knowledge, and friendliness of the staff.

GEM Motoring Assist, a little known company, took top place. One official said: ‘Biggest isn’t always best. The lesser-known and smaller recovery firms generally outshone the big boys.’ Another major provider, Churchill, came in at the bottom of the list.

An official from the AA said that the breakdown service was still very popular amongst drivers, stating: ‘Regular independent polling among our 15 million members consistently shows that 95% would recommend the AA to family and friends.’

Many consumers that take out breakdown cover tend to do so through their insurance company, but officials advise them to shop around and see what is available, as the cost and service can vary quite widely.
