Lack of sleep for estate agents
August 4, 2008
Over recent months the housing market has been experiencing severe problems, with the level of property sales falling through the floor, and estate agents reporting the poorest sales figures in many years. It is little wonder, therefore, that estate agents have topped the list of professionals that have been losing the most sleep recently, with many worried about the state of the housing market and the security of their jobs.
A recent report found that estate agents are getting on average less than six hours sleep a night, making them the most sleep deprived professionals at present. Those involved in the transport industry such as taxi and lorry drivers were not far behind, with just over six hours sleep, with many worried about the impact of high petrol prices on their jobs and businesses.
One official that was involved in the research stated: “It’s no surprise the professions in the industries worst hit by the credit crunch come top of the charts. We all know that money worries and job security are key drivers of stress which in turn, leads to significant sleep loss.”
Banking industry officials were getting around six and a half hours sleep per night on average, even though the banking industry has also been hit hard over recent months due to the global credit crunch. Health officials recommend people get eight hours of sleep a night.
