Holidaymakers advised to budget 'day-by-day'Considering the living costs of the country you are going to and budgeting on a day-to-day basis can help keep the costs of a holiday down, a charity for those in financial difficulties has advised.

The Consumer Credit Counsellor Service (CCCS) has recommended evaluating all the possible costs of going on a holiday before setting off and avoiding "very expensive" holiday periods

Use of the internet has been highlighted by the CCCS as a good way to research a holiday destination that fits into a budget and won’t leave debts looming on arrival back home.

"It is very easy to shop around for a holiday at the moment on the internet and all the last-minute stuff," said CCCS spokesman Frances Walker.

He added: "You need to look into the small print about things, for example car hire can often turn out more expensive than you thought it was going to be."

Research from CreditExpert revealed 12 million Britons get into debt paying for their holidays each year.
