Yorkshire offers table-topping Isa

August 1, 2006

Yorkshire building society has increased the rate of one of its Isas to offer a chart-topping rate.

Its one-year fixed-rate anniversary Isa now offers 5.25 per cent gross/AER, which it claims is better than the average 4.96 per cent on the next five highest paying accounts.

Chris Edwards, head of mortgages and savings at Yorkshire, said: “Unlike many competing Isa rates, which include short-term bonuses, anniversary Isa will pay 5.25 per cent for the whole year.

“Savers can transfer into our anniversary Isa without their savings losing their tax-free status.”

Through a higher rate in savings, the building society claims that savers will earn £70 per year more if they have their maximum Isa limit of £24,000.

Other Isa providers also offer good rates, but Mr Edwards said that many of these are limited offers and urged savers to check the rates on their accounts.
