Credit crunch won’t stop holidays
July 31, 2008
According to a recent report the majority of Brits do not intend to miss out on their annual holidays, even though the global credit crunch and rising bills are making life difficult and resulting in strained household finances for many.
The report showed that people would rather cut back on luxuries than have to miss their holidays, despite the global credit crunch and its effects.
Out of the one thousand people that were polled as part of the study only 2% said that they would think about canceling their holiday in order to make ends meet financially. Over a third of those polled said that they would rather stop eating out, another third would stop buying new clothes and gadgets, and around 14% said they would rather give up smoking or going to the pub.
One industry official said that there are still some good deals available on travel for those determined to get their holiday.
She said: “As a nation, we’ve always been much more likely to explore the four corners of the earth than to buy the latest flat screen TV. Budget-conscious travellers willing to be flexible and spend time researching dates and destinations can still find the perfect trip at the right price.”
The results of the survey showed that an annual holiday was more important to around 95% of Brits than issues such as starting a family, having a car, or having a partner.
