Combat petrol costs with the right credit card

July 9, 2008

As any driver will know the cost the petrol has rocketed over recent months, reaching record prices and leaving many people out of pocket when filling up the car. Added to all of the other living costs rises and the current financial climate this is leaving many people struggling to make ends meet with their household budget each month.

However, officials have stated that one of the ways in which some consumers may be able to ease the situation a little in terms of petrol costs is to use the right credit card – one that offers fuel related incentives and could therefore save you money on the cost of petrol at a time when prices are sky high.

Shell and Asda both offer credit cards with petrol related incentives, and these could help drivers to save money on the cost of filling up. The Shell MasterCard offers a 3% rebate on petrol purchases from Shell stations, as well as a 1% rebate on other purchases and 0% interest for twelve months on balance transfers.

The Asda credit card offers a rebate of two pence per litre of fuel for those filling up at Asda stations with their credit card, plus 0% interest on balance transfers for nine months. One official said: ‘Rebates for both cards have to be redeemed in a Shell or Asda petrol station respectively. However, in today’s market, even a small saving can make a big difference, so consumers should be looking for any opportunity to relieve their money pressures.’
