Travel insurance assumes added importance as delays hit airports

Travel insurance assumes added importance as delays hit airports The need for adequate travel insurance cover has been highlighted by Halifax Travel Insurance in the wake of the chronic delays affecting holidaymakers at UK airports.

The insurance firm has warned that should passengers be subjected to delays or even cancellations, their airline operator is not obliged to offer compensation.

As a result, comprehensive insurance cover is vital should consumers wish to be reimbursed following a transportation nightmare.

"When travelling by air you need to plan for every eventuality, including delays," detailed Vicky Emmott, senior manager of underwriting for Halifax Travel Insurance.

"Heightened security at airports is now a fact of life, but can lead to long and frustrating delays for passengers and for many it can ruin the start of a much anticipated trip or holiday.

"To cover all eventualities, we urge that people do not travel without insurance cover."

Additional advice provided by Halifax Travel Insurance includes packing a good book and plenty of food and water in anticipation of being delayed, as well as ensuring MP3 players are fully charged and full of calming music.
