RIAS: Ask the right questions when buying travel insurance
July 14, 2006
Over-50s insurance provider RIAS has advised its customers to always consider the proper elements when purchasing travel insurance, as too many people often shop on price alone.
The company claims that insurance can often be tailored to the particular requirements of customers and that packages are sometimes individualised, making them difficult to compare on a like-for-like basis.
It is therefore important, Rias asserts, for customers to think about the level of cover they need and shop around to find the most appropriate policy.
Prices are of course important, but the insurer warns holidaymakers that low premiums may indicate that the form of cover offered can be low and incomprehensive in these cases.
Janet Connor, managing director of RIAS, said: “Travel insurance, particularly for the over 50s, should very much be viewed as an essential purchase in a similar way to arranging your currency.
“When buying insurance consumers need to think of a policy as something they need to tailor, rather than an off-the-shelf product. It is essential to be familiar with the terms of the policy in order to know exactly what you are paying for and what cover you are getting.”
