Charity donations on insurance announced by first direct
July 12, 2006
Insurance provider first direct has announced that it will be donating £10 to one of two charities every time it sells a particular insurance policy.
When a life insurance policy is taken up the company says it will give £10 to Marie Curie Cancer Care, while for home insurance products first direct will contribute the money to housing charity Shelter.
The Marie Curie charity provides free nursing care to terminal cancer patients, while Shelter helps more than 170,000 people find a home every year as well as addressing the issues at the root of inadequate housing.
This year marks the 40th year of the latter charity’s campaigning in this field.
Chris Pilling, chief executive of first direct, said: “Our customers already enjoy good value life and home insurance cover, but we wanted to go the extra mile and acknowledge and help the incredible work done by both Marie Curie and Shelter.”
The insurer offers a ten per cent discount when buildings and contents policies are purchased together and life insurance cover starting from £6 per month.
