  5. Mr D Okey on June 26th, 2008 2:00 pm

I am surprised that you penalise people using the Internet when paying road tax by credit card. As a victim of fraud my bank has advised me only to use a credit card for all Internet transaction. Due to your policy of charging £2.50 fee I will in future pay by cheque through the Post Office. You are defeating the object I think !

  6. Mr R.S.Nuttall on June 26th, 2008 4:43 pm

I find it easy to renew my car tax dics at the Post Office .

  7. jacky evans on June 27th, 2008 3:19 pm

when you tax your car at the post office you get the disc there and then much easier!!

  8. MR AL MURBY on June 27th, 2008 3:55 pm

I FOUND NOT HAS SIMPLE TO TAX ON LINE . SO I WENT TO THE POST OFFICE .TOOK FIVE MINUTES TO RENEW MY TAX.

  13. john tate on June 30th, 2008 12:18 pm

i put a sorn on my car it took a few minuets and saved me time on parking and queueing at the post office …realy easy

  14. Sue Mason on July 2nd, 2008 2:36 pm

I always tax online now. It is so convenient. I just have to remember to submit a week before the tax expiress. Also I don’t have to queue behind lots of folk who are doing the same at the end of the month!!

  15. Mrs Jean Adkins on July 5th, 2008 8:58 pm

I really need a new car, mine is 12 years old!

  16. Paul G Makin on July 7th, 2008 9:46 am

By supporting my local Post Office it helps hold the Village together as a community

  17. Mukesh Shah on July 10th, 2008 6:52 am

For a government who is ’supportive’ of the post office network it does a great job of then getting people not to use the post office eg by automatically entering people in the competition who buy online . It could be just as easy to enter automatically, the people who want to buy their road tax at the post office. Another example of these dogma driven nutters (or facists–take your pick!!) wanting to destroy something that keeps communities together.

  18. Lucy Lester on July 10th, 2008 7:45 am

I Aalways use the local post office to renew my tax.People who dont use it cannot justify complaining if their post office is closed down. The people who suffer when closures happen are often the least able to use the alternatives.

  19. Nicola Ingram on July 10th, 2008 12:34 pm

I am all for keeping Post Offices open and try to use mine as much as possible, but as I only get 1/2 hour lunch I don’t have time to queue up, which is why I have found it so much easier to phone through my renewal. Also I’m terrible for mislaying my paperwork and have ended up going back and forth to Post Office several times before getting all the right paperwork, wilth the phone the database can check straight away if the car is Insured and MOT without you having the paperwork at hand. So quick and handy…

  20. Michelle G on July 10th, 2008 1:19 pm

My nearest Post Office to re-tax is too far away (Another thank you to the Government for their cut backs) so I find it easier to do-it-online. The only draw back is the cost for usins a credit card – this really should be waivered.

  21. Carl Stewart on July 10th, 2008 6:34 pm

Village Post Offices need all the support they can get. I always use mine to renew my tax its quick and instant, lets keep a little Village tradition going. What overpaid wiz kid thought this one up.

  22. alan norton on July 12th, 2008 1:07 pm

Taxed my car over the telephone Wednesday midday received the disc Friday morning………….could not be easier.
In the past I have had to drive to the Post Office find a place to park queue in line awaiting my turn and then hold up all the olduns after their pensions ………..this time I did not even have to leave my living room.
Why has nobody thought of this years ago?

  23. Albert Davison on July 15th, 2008 8:23 pm

It seems to be a great Car

  24. B0b Austin on July 18th, 2008 10:53 am

They try to make it easier by phone , then charge a card fee. We need the Post Office and should all do our best to support it . It is the bureacrats in the EU that want to do away with the Post Office and we let our Govt go ahead. Odds on we will loose the Post Office and that will be a sad loss to Britain and the British people.

  25. Roy Alder on July 18th, 2008 1:44 pm

I am digusted with the attitude of my M.P. Gordon Brown, who cries crocodile
tears at the plight of the Post Office, encourages people to renew their car tax by phone or internet, signs up to every dictat from Brussels witrhout question and forces the ratification of the European Constitution (although they renamed it) through Parlia, ment without our consent . This is the man who was going to be honest with people. When I have met him in person, he dodges the issue raised.

  26. REVEREND DAVID CROUCHER on July 18th, 2008 9:12 pm

Thanks for the opportunity to “speak” . Our Post Offices are being erroded enough, what with TV duty coming from petrol stations! . W e as , smaller communities, NEED our post office services and we use it or lose it , so the post office HAS to be the right place AND , YOU WALK OUT WIYH YOUR NEW TAX DISC – IN YOUR HAND ! Who trusts the post these days ? Please don’t take this one away from the post offices too !
    Reverend David Croucher,

  35. Bob Eady on August 25th, 2008 8:15 am

I think that the service to tax your car by telephone is excellent , for people that work long hours who are not able to get to a post office during opening hours it is a simple and straight forward system to use and with the electronic mot and insurance database will ensure that ultimately there will be less un-insured cars on our roads , well done .

  36. bill steel on August 25th, 2008 3:36 pm

taxed my car online brilliant no queing agree credit cards should be free just waiting for my seat car

  38. j n thomas on August 27th, 2008 2:12 pm

The Goverment has taken far too many functions from the Post Office already and everybody should make the effort to use as many facilities as the Post Office have available – before we lose ALL of them.

  39. Peter Lightburn on August 29th, 2008 10:11 am

Our local Post office is vital for we country-dwellers

  40. TONY SMITH on August 31st, 2008 12:35 pm

I USUALLY TAX BY PHONE BUT HAVE DECIDED TO USE MY LOCAL POST OFFICE THIS TIME TO SUPPORT THEM DUE TO THE INCREASING RISK OF CLOSURES DUE TO POLICIES OF AN UNCARING GOVERMENT WHO SEEM TO BE OUT OF TOUCH WITH THE WISHES OF THE MAJORITY OF THE BRITISH PEOPLE

  41. K.R.Stanton on August 31st, 2008 8:24 pm

I can pay anyway I want to at the Post Office and get my Disc straight away.

  42. H.WILKINSON on September 1st, 2008 9:41 am

I am old fashioned some would say, as I am reluctant to give card details over the phone and certainly not over the internet. I also like the choices of payment you can make at the Post Office, which are also in dire need of our support and to top all that you can display your tax disc immediatley.

  43. Josie Taylor on September 5th, 2008 2:34 pm

Please do not give my details to a third party. This is just for the prize draw.

  44. Allan Brooks on September 8th, 2008 12:52 pm

Being a Neo Luddite with no plastic, I will pay at the Post Office. This way I help to keep someone employed.

  45. Bernard Tidman on September 8th, 2008 1:53 pm

  54. John Green-Price on September 24th, 2008 8:01 pm

I always use our local Post Office and I feel that the Government should be encouraging people to use the Post Office and not offering free cars to use Internet ; they won’t be getting my vote !

  55. joan Thornley on September 25th, 2008 10:21 am

Where can I find a list of the winners?

although “doing it” on line would be easy for me, I wish to support the poor old post offices

  63. Carolyn Brooks on September 30th, 2008 1:44 pm

Our Post Offices are an “institution” and have been serving us for many many years so now it is time to say “thank you” by carrying on using them.
Copying the saying of the posters in the First World War ——-”Your Post Office Needs You!” —–so use them, and they wil not close down.

  71. Mrs. D. Baylis on October 9th, 2008 6:20 pm

i support my husband, we must use our local post office, part of way of life for the older people who need this service, & us younger ones use the service as well.my husband writes all our bills cheques & pays through the post office. just done the van & car tax, so easy. keep this service.

  72. Mrs Susan Mallett on October 10th, 2008 10:15 am

I prefer to support the post office by renewin g there. Also there is no five day wait for the tax disc. The government is looking for any excuse to close down p.os and renewing on line takes away post office busin ess.

I prefer to purchase my car tax at my local Sub Post Office one way to help in the fight to keep them open. A new SEAT would be lovely.

  83. Jennifer Marcellaud on October 24th, 2008 6:29 pm

I am an older person and I am just learning how to work a computer, prefer to renew my car tax at the Post Office, I like to see it done in front of me.

A year ago I would not be filling in this entrance form for this competition, which shows that older people are getting the hang of it. I still think that you need to keep our Post Offices, its part of our culture, and there are still a lot of people out there who know very little about computers.

  84. carol wilson on October 29th, 2008 2:39 pm

i think we should all sopport our local Post Offices as to many are closing down and they provide a vital srvice in our communities although i can see that young people with very hectic lives will find being able to do things on line a bonus

  85. Margaret Williams on October 30th, 2008 12:14 pm

I prefer to tax my car at the Post Office because they need the support to keep them open. I can have a 2 mile walk at the same time, during my lunch hour at work. I get valuable excercise and there are no carbon ommissions!

  86. Peter Everard on October 30th, 2008 2:56 pm

Renewing my Road Tax online has been very efficient, however it took me sometime to follow the instructions. But that was me not the system.

I have always taxed my car at my local post office it needs our support to keep it open

  89. Jim Keeping on November 3rd, 2008 6:41 pm

Slowly but surely this Government seems determined to erode the business that the Post Office has done for many years resulting in them closing. This must stop, so i would prefer to Tax my car through the Post Office.

  90. R SL0AN on November 4th, 2008 10:01 am

SOME PERSONS IDEA THINK EVERYTHING IS BETTER BY THE WEB….NO CONCERN FOR LITTLE POST OFFICES WHICH KEEP VILLAGES TOGETHER, THIS IS LIKE BLACKMAIL, EVERYBODY SHOULD BE ENTERED AUTOMATICALLY, AND WHAT ABOUT PEOPLE THAT DONT USE COMPUTERS…THIS IS UNFAIR AND TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.

  91. Margaret Barnes on November 9th, 2008 6:05 pm

Although I have entered this competion online, the fact that you are encouraging people to tax their vehicles online is not only encouraging the powers that be, to put myself and my colleagues out of work by closing the post offices that play such an important part in the lives of many, who depend on us for more than just selling them a couple of stamps and posting their mail. To some of the elderly when collecting their weekly pension on a Monday morning this is the only time they get out and see other people. It is so much more than just a service that we provide we are a friendly face to otherwise lonely people.

  92. Stan Green on November 10th, 2008 3:00 pm on November 10th, 2008 3:04 pm

We need to keep our Post Offices, I anticipate a lot of hardship for a lot of people
if we keep on closing them.

I prefer to re-licence my vehicles through my local post office

    fantastic, job done

  95. Irene Shadbolt on November 17th, 2008 7:56 pm

find far more easier to apply on ;ine than waiting at the Post Office
I have a Seat at present and a later model would be better on fuel than the
    one i allready have.

  96. Joan Fairhurst on November 19th, 2008 6:01 pm

Applying online was very easy and I admit I was attracted by the SEAT prize draw……sorry post office :(

  97. I . Ralton . on November 24th, 2008 9:35 pm

The Government takes more and more business away from the Post office
and then is surprised when it can’t make a profit !!! KEEP GETTING YOUR
CAR TAX DISC FROM YOUR LOCAL POST OFFICE , AND SUPPORT
    LOCAL EMPLOYMENT .

  98. I . Ralton . on November 24th, 2008 10:01 pm

This so – called prize draw ,appears to be another Government Con !! .
The Rules say that there are 3 cars —- one each for the draws at the
end June , July , and August 2008 . It is now NOVEMBER !! .
is THIS misleading advertising ? .

  99. B.HUGHES on November 27th, 2008 10:13 pm

  106. R. HOWARD on December 23rd, 2008 5:48 pm

    computor or can afford one.

  107. R. HOWARD on December 23rd, 2008 5:52 pm

I always tax my vehicles at the post office so that it helps to

It was so quick and easy I now re-tax all the family cars on line

  109. susan westlake on January 8th, 2009 9:19 pm

I objected strongly to the main Post Office in Altrincham being closed, I now have to walk the full length of the main street, being disabled this is a slow business. I will continue to obtain my car tax from the Department above Smiths shop. just to show that no more P.O. should be closed. Thank you for making it easier. not.
This s first time I have written this.

  110. B Hemmings on January 12th, 2009 3:07 pm

After Speaking to Various PO staff, my Opinion completely changed. As most of them Agreed they had more than enough work to do without waisting there time on road tax. This I know, Because i have had to Queue at Both the Main post offices and local offices myself many times. As for not knowing how to operate a computer, join the club, as it took me five minutes to renew my tax on the phone and the reminder gives you plenty of time as I received mine in less than a week, surely a help to people who have trouble getting around . I no longer kid myself that road tax is going to keep my local PO open.

  111. L.P. Maple on January 14th, 2009 3:39 pm

Its so easy going to the post office and obtaining one’s tax disc and at the same time supporting the local post office. We should all do it.

  112. j.gurie on January 18th, 2009 7:00 pm

Yes I agree we should support our local post office but in my area you can only renew your car tax at a main post office not at a sub post office. we have three sub post office’s all in walking distance from my home. so that’s why we find it easier to do it on line

  113. C Cole on January 20th, 2009 1:52 pm

Quick easy no waiting in line to be served, saves time when some people only have limited time because they are working all week.

  114. IAN WILSON on January 23rd, 2009 9:42 pm

I would like to renew my licence on line but i dont think you should have to pay extra to use my credit card. I will still support the post office while you have to pay extra to use my credit card.

  115. Gordon Johnson on January 26th, 2009 2:29 pm

Support your local Post Office. The government wants to make life harder for people, especially the elderly,to make (supposed) soft savings, whilst giving away £m`S to odd-bod groups.
Wasn`t it great to see Pres. Obama making his declaration to the people of the USA about giving transparency to his govt. actions.

Can anyone imagine Gordon Brown & his cabinet doing the same?.

  116. Angela Stockill on January 30th, 2009 3:52 pm

what a really fast and easy way to sort car tax

  117. john seed on January 30th, 2009 8:43 pm

I do 5000 miles a year which costs me £170. I have a Citroen Picasso 1600 cc. The taxi driver down the road has one too. He does 22000 miles a year,it cost him the same.So much for fairness for emission charges what!!!!!

  118. P Burton on January 31st, 2009 3:39 pm

I would have taxed my car online but i refuse to pay the extra charges

  119. J Dick on February 4th, 2009 1:25 pm

This is the easiest and most efficient thing i`ve done on line yet. Saves time, fuel, trying to find a parking space ( what ticket time do you need?) then standing in a long queue at the post office.

  120. Coli Morgan on February 8th, 2009 12:46 pm

I prefer to collect my tax disc from my local post office and it is very quick and easy, plus it helps to keep the staff employed.

  121. G Murray on February 10th, 2009 9:50 pm

I have just taxed my car on line,I could not go to the local post office at this time of night and if I went during the day the last thing I would do is go in my car, even if the weather was bad. As there is no parking areas and plenty of traffic jams.
I find this method very convenient, and healthier, and simple.

  122. Steve Hudson on February 12th, 2009 10:39 pm

Great idea taxing your car online but if you are disabled you can’t do it. You have to go to the post office. It’s a bit like putting the disabled spaces right outside the entrance to the ice rink. Still I like the Post Office-you meet all sorts of interesting people there…mostly disabled of course.

  123. Marian West on February 13th, 2009 1:06 pm

Because of disability the Post Office is the best place for me as I can get other services there as well. The staff are always helpful and friendly but we have already lost the only Post Office that I was able to reach without using the car- I
would now prefer to support my remaining (nearly local) one although I have to
use the car to get to it. I am grateful however for the opportunity to enter the prize draw. Thank You. M.West.

  124. Kev Jones on February 21st, 2009 12:44 pm

I realy need a new car as my old car is off the road now and will cost a lot of time and money to put right and will still be on old banger at the end of the day

  125. V Colville on February 25th, 2009 7:31 pm

I use th local Post Office whenever possible. Support local commerce: use it or lose it.

  126. Kay Stead on February 27th, 2009 10:38 pm

What a good idea to tax on line but not a good idea to have to pay £2.50. I too prefer to support my local Post office.

Where do all these £2.50’s go to?

  127. ian tyrer on February 28th, 2009 4:24 pm

  129. a c cole on March 5th, 2009 1:09 pm

I do not have a PC at home so I used the phone number option. It was a lot quicker and easier than driving to my nearest ,main, post office.
The tax disc arrived very quickly. I was very impressed with the service.

  130. Eric Smith on March 8th, 2009 3:32 pm

Well i think people should pay at there Post office. and give them the work . i do not think paying via the internet is given post offices the chane to have much work. its there living.

  131. Eric Smith on March 8th, 2009 3:34 pm

people can also buy post office stamps each week as then it will not be a strain on there pockets when the car Tax is Due .

  146. Pete Robson on April 22nd, 2009 8:30 am

Reading the comments here it is obvious that the Post Office is certainly the most popular choice when renewing car tax.
It probably depends on where you live, it is certainly easier for me.
I think that car taxation should be applied through the fuel. I did less than 2,000 miles last year but had to pay £185 – the same as anyone doing 100,000 miles!
I walk whenever possible. Never drive to town and as a pensioner can use the bus for free – something good that this government has done for us.

  147. Mrs Pamela Farley on April 24th, 2009 11:15 am

I prefer to renew my tax online it’s quick and easy and i save on fuel by not going to the post office I would love a new seat

  148. malcolm hull on April 24th, 2009 4:59 pm

This is the second year that i have taxed my car on line and really find it convenient and simple to do

  149. John Wood on April 26th, 2009 9:46 pm

I understand fully what people are saying about paying their road tax at the local post office. I have supported this method for years and will continue to as much as possable, however due to pressure of time recently I must confess to have used the internet, simply for speed.

  150. Michael Burt on April 29th, 2009 3:46 pm

I prefer to pay at my local Post Office because it’s instant . I might be tempted to do it on line using my Credit Card but only if it didn’t cost any more than the Post Office fee.

  151. ROBERT FRANCIS DEAKIN on April 29th, 2009 6:59 pm

I believe in use it or lose it, for this reason I support the local post office i n
any way possible. I think the Post Office is essential in so many rural
    localities

  152. karen waymark on April 30th, 2009 10:23 pm

I have tried to purchase my tax disc online and it says my credit card is invalid even though I gave the correct card number. I double checked.

I used the same card and number at my local post office no problem.

I will use Post office in future. Use it or loose it.

It would be god to win a Prize

  166. Ronald Henderson on May 27th, 2009 8:07 pm

I shall continue to use my post office as the service is too important to let go.
And to the person who wrote on May 26, ” what a lovely idea to win a new car forr (!) free” I can only say that of course it isn’t “forr free”. It is purchased by the Government from our Road Fund contributions. Nothing this Government gives you is for free unless it applies after a fashion to their M.P.s expenses claims.
Lastly; isn’t there anyone out there nowadays that can spell accurately? A cursory glance at a great many of the punters’ contributions to these comments makes it look as if this is an English spelling test for five year olds.
A perfect indictment of this Government’s failure if ever there were.

  167. P.K.Anthony on May 28th, 2009 10:16 pm

I also prefer to keep my Post Office by using it whenever possible. In a village, a Post Office is a centre of information which is essential to our lives.

will help to retain their viability, especially from another government agency

  170. W Hussain on May 30th, 2009 9:37 am

First time buying on line to check the service
I think it is good to have a choice to either by on line and save time or go to the post office and wait in a long que.

  171. C M Shaw on May 30th, 2009 1:14 pm

I still much prefer to use my local Post Office to purchase my road fund licence. It is important to keep our Post Offices open as they are the hub of the community and as we do not have a bank in our village, it is imperitive that we should have a facility to conduct our financial affairs.

  172. syed ali on June 3rd, 2009 11:58 am

I renewed my road tax at a post office yesterday, on 2nd. June , my reference 1068 592066704415, kindly enter my details on this months prize draw, as I could not access your website.

  174. Avril Shorter on June 12th, 2009 5:05 pm

I would really like a new car that emits less CO2 and haspower steering. I prefer to use the post office to buy my licence as it is more convenient to get the tax disc straight away. Also I feel an allegiance to my local office. and don’t want its existence threatened.

  175. June Brewer on June 13th, 2009 12:02 pm

I always use my friendly local post office it is so convenient and a pleasure to do
business there. They have been fortunate enough to have been saved in the Post
Office cuts and I intend to support them

  176. Kate Fraser on June 15th, 2009 5:47 pm

I think it outrageous of the government to allow promotions such as this as part of its campaign to deprive the Post Office of still more of its functions. We need to keep Post Offices because they are essential to millions in our society. When they are gone they are gone.

  179. Joseph De Lord on June 23rd, 2009 3:05 pm

I have just renewed my tax disc at the Post Office and it did not take long.
In any case, as the car had its first MoT I had no option but go to the Post Office.
However, we need to support our local Post Office because it provides a very useful service, especially to senior citizens, and we do not want to lose it.
Thanks for the chance to enter the draw for a SEAT car.

  180. D. Mitchell on June 26th, 2009 11:16 am

Those people who are able to renew their car tax at their village Post Office are very fortunate. My village only has a Sub Post Office and, as a result, they are not able to provide this service. I wish they could as I to would like to support them.

have taxed my car online for the last eighteen months. Ihave to say, it beats queuing at the post office with reminders and mot certs and insurance papers. Online car taxing is easy, over and done with in minutes.

  190. Richard Hollingworth on August 7th, 2009 6:34 pm

I find that ordering my new tax disc on line much much easier than getting stuck in a long queue at the post office, which is now housed in W.H.Sith’s at Gillingham High Street Kent. On line only took about 4/5 miuntes which is better than queueing from 15 to 20 minutes. I’m 84 years old.

  191. John Mitchell on August 10th, 2009 8:50 pm

I used the iternet because I like to keep up with new technology. But you don’t announce the winners of the car prize anywhere on your website. Are you telling the country’s post offices instead?

  192. Gwen Tomkins on August 17th, 2009 11:41 am

No digging out MOT’s and Insurance papers, no driving around finding a place to park, no standing in queues. Fantastic! Taxed my car in 4/5 minutes online. Did it last year and will do it again next year. P.S. Never won anything, but one can only live in hope.

  193. Val Nash on August 17th, 2009 6:46 pm

I love being able to renew my road tax over the phone. Insurance and MOT confirmation is so quick. Consider £150 tax for vehicle doing 10,000 miles per year at 40 to the gallon. If the cost was spread over the total amount of fuel used in the year [ 250 galls] the price increase would be about 60 pence/gall [ say 12p/lt.] Such a scheme might please many motorists and moderate car use, which in turn would assist government M O T dept. in easing road congestion.Just a thought .

it was so easy to buy my tax at a touch of a button. I would love to be a winner of a brand new car, it would be nice to give to my son as a birthday present, as he past his test a few months ago.

I absolutely begrudge paying for road fund licence in this dam country. The people of this country should stand together and refuse to pay it, as they did in Gibraltar. British I believe !! Ive worked for Oxfordshire county coucil and seen first hand how our road fund licence is sqandered its outrageous how the councillers and councils look after their own personal intrests.

i think online taxing of my car is the quickest and easiest thing going, no fumbling around for mot’s or insurance documents they check it all out first before they accept you, what could be easier, i will always go online.

dont blame the government for the option of taxing your car whatever on line its the sign of the times, supermarkets, insurance companies, travel agents etc are all using this method, it cuts down on paperwork and waiting time.
as im a novice on a computer and im not really interested in them although my wife and daughters have used our house pc for years.
so im not a couch potato, i go to my village postoffice queue or not.
