Credit card spending popular on Saturdays
June 26, 2008
The results of a recent study have shown that Brits tend to give their credit cards a particularly large battering on Saturdays, with many tending to go out and spend at high levels once Saturday comes around. The research indicated that on this day of the week Brits tend to make larger purchases and spend more on their cards.
According to one official one of the reasons behind this trend may be that Brits work all day Monday to Friday and therefore want to go out and splash the cash on a Saturday when they have the day off and can go and browse the shops. She stated: “As a nation we work some of the longest hours in Europe and a large number of us live for the weekend, with Saturday being the one day where people feel they can let their hair down and enjoy themselves.”
The research was carried out by the Cooperative Bank, and officials from the bank have said that over their lifetime the average person will spend around £549,000 on a Saturday. Around 75% of people that were surveyed admitted to spending far more on a weekend.
Some officials have said that Saturdays and weekends are the time when most people want to unwind, relax, and kick back their heels, and often this involved spending money, adding to the increased amount that many are spending at the weekend.
