Virgin Money: Dundee is UK’s friendliest city for cars
June 19, 2006
Dundee is the most friendly city in the UK for cars, according to a new study by Virgin Money Car Insurance.
The company took a number of financial issues into account in order to conclude on what was the most favourable location in the UK for motorists.
These included the cost of parking, the number of speed cameras on roads, the level of car crime and petrol prices.
Dundee topped the list, followed by Blackpool, Ipswich, Portsmouth and Southend.
At the other end of the scale, however, Cardiff was found to be the most unfriendly city for drivers, followed by Nottingham, Birmingham, London and Reading.
According to Virgin Money, the Welsh capital was among the worst cities in the UK for car crime, has expensive petrol prices and a high number of speed cameras.
“Driving can be frustrating and expensive whether it is a case of struggling to find a car park of struggling to pay for the car park with the cost of petrol, speed camera fines and the threat of vehicle crime thrown in,” said Jason Wyer-Smith of Virgin Money Car Insurance.
“Anyone who drives across the country will be familiar with the feeling that some towns just seem designed to make life difficult for motorists. Now our research shows which are car-friendly and which are not quite as friendly as they should be.”
