Sainsbury’s: Too many travellers are uninsured
June 27, 2006
Too many people are going on holiday without taking out travel insurance according to Sainsbury’s Bank.
A survey for its travel insurance arm found that as much as £4.2 billion of holidays and over £2 billion of belongings will lack cover this summer.
Robert O’May, travel insurance manager at Sainsbury’s Bank said: “It’s staggering that despite quality travel insurance such as ours starting from as little as £22 for 14 nights in Europe, some 2.61 million people will risk losing a fortune this year by having no cover against a holiday calamity such as losing baggage, suffering an accident or injury and needing medical treatment or even having to cancel their trip altogether.”
While the EHIC form – which replaces the E111 – offers some medical cover, Mr O’May stressed that this only applied to medical emergencies in certain countries.
However, one in twelve travellers are ignoring this and failing to take out insurance for their trip, running the risk of ruining their holiday.
