Quality pet insurance doesn’t need to be expensive says Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s Bank has today commented on the quality of pet insurance currently supplied on the market, saying that good cover does not need to be expensive.
The insurer claims that its offering has been voted as one of Defaqto’s best buys for cover for both dogs and cats.
Comparing itself to other providers, Sainsbury’s says that the quality of pet insurance in general has fallen and warns owners of dogs and cats to exercise care when choosing a policy.
According to Sainsbury’s most recent pet insurance charter, only six per cent of providers are offering cover which it considers to be of the minimum necessary level.
David Pickett, pet insurance manager at Sainsbury’s Bank, said: “Pet owners need to make sure that the pet insurance they choose will provide the cover they need in the event of their dog or cat needing treatment.
“Good quality pet insurance does not need to be expensive, because extensive cover at a competitive price can be found by shopping around. Our premiums start from only £4 for cats and £7 a month for dogs.”
One of the recent developments in pet insurance cover noted by Sainsbury’s is the fact that premiums have increased owing to the growing sophistication of veterinary care.
