Norwich Union stresses importance of full disclosure

June 23, 2006

Insurer Norwich Union has released a statement emphasising the importance of submitting every detail requested on insurance application forms. Many claims are rejected as a result of non-disclosure on the customer’s part, according to Norwich Union, which has released a factsheet discussing the importance of submitting details. One of the most important facts emphasised by the company is that insurers can only provide cover for people who have filled in all the necessary details on their application forms. One example that Norwich Union gives is medical information, as one in five people assume that the insurer will contact a customer’s doctor to gain these details, which is not the case.”People need to take their time when reading insurance application forms and complete them very carefully,” said Tony Jupp, chief underwriter at Norwich Union.”We want to be able to help people should they make a claim, but to do this we need them to complete their application forms fully, truthfully and accurately.”Norwich Union claims to be the largest provider of insurance services in the UK, providing life, pensions and investment products as well as services to financial advisers.
