Insuresupermarket advises care over Brits’ biking passion

June 15, 2006

Cycling is currently becoming more popular than ever before, according to Insuresupermarket.com, with figures revealing that the National Cycle Network carried 15 per cent more trips in 2005 than in 2004.

The company also states that National Bike Week runs from June 17th to 25th, saying that “there is no better time to take the saddle”.

However, bike enthusiasts across the country should be careful, Insuresupermarket warns, that they have adequate cover should they have an accident or their mode of transport be stolen.

Advice from the company suggests that bicycle owners should ensure that their bike is covered by their home insurance or take out a separate policy.

Richard Mason, director of Insuresupermarket.com, said: “There are three types of insurance options to consider when cycling – bike, third party and personal accident cover.

“A number of home contents insurance providers will allow you to add cycle insurance to their standard contents cover.”

It is worth checking this, however, the company warns, as the cost of cover from different providers can vary.
