Specialist insurance deal for learner drivers

May 14, 2010

As many people know all too well taking driving lessons can be an expensive affair, and for those that don’t pass their driving test first time the costs can quickly spiral out of control. Whilst those learning to drive can practise with their parents or loved ones people often shy away from giving them this opportunity in case the learner has an accident.

Of course, experienced drivers who already have a license and vehicle do not want their insurance premiums and no claims bonus affected because of a learner driver having an accident in their car, and the learner is therefore left to spend a fortune on additional driving lessons instead.

However, a new insurance policy has been launched that gives learners the chance to enjoy their own insurance cover, which means that the loved ones that they practise with will not have their insurance or no claims bonus put at risk.

The new cover has been made available by Young Marmalade, which specialises in cover for new drivers. The new plan is called Provisional Marmalade, and is designed for those that are still learning. The cost of the cover is around £90-£100 a month, and for those that want to get a lot of practice in with parents of relatives rather than driving schools it can work out a fair amount cheaper than lessons at £15 or £20 a go.

According to reports other insurance companies may follow suit in offering specialist cover for learner drivers so that the cover of their loved ones is not jeopardised, with the AA already thought to be looking into bringing out a similar type of policy to the one that is current being offered by Young Marmalade.
