Borrowers need to improve knowledge to help with debt problems

April 20, 2010

Many people in the UK have accrued a range of debts, and for many the last couple of years have been very difficult financially. This has resulted in some borrowers that have a range of debs finding it extremely difficult to keep on top of their debt repayments. The matter is made worse for many people because of their lack of knowledge when it comes to debt and financial management.

One debt charity in the UK has stated recently that in order to boost their chances of repaying their debts successfully borrowers need to improve their understanding and knowledge with regards to financial and debt management. With the increase in the number of people that are experiencing debt repayment problems improvement of knowledge and skills over financial management could prove really beneficial to many people according to the debt charity.

The call for increased financial know how amongst consumers has been called for by the debt charity the Consumer Credit Counselling Service. In fact, the charity is helping consumers to learn more about how they can help themselves when it comes to managing their debts and finances through a free programme that is called Money Matter, and is available via their website. Consumers are able to get tailor made advice on managing their finances and debt by answering a series of questions about their financial situation via the charity website. The advice received, in booklet form, may help borrowers to deal with their finances and heir debts far more effectively.

An official from the Consumer Credit Counselling Service said: “Managing your money efficiently is important for both short and long term happiness. During a recession, nobody can afford to ignore good money management which could even stave off a developing debt problem.”

Here, here. Adults need access to the appropriate education and information now! And before future generations get into the same financial problems that the current generation of adults are in, we need to implement money management classes into the National Curriculum.

We educate children in schools on all of the things that we believe they need to know in order to go out into the world and live life! Yet we fail to offer any sort of education on debt!! And just when it looks like there is light at the end of the tunnel, when the Government announced in January 2010 that children from 5 would be educated on finance, they go and make a U turn on it!

How can we ever expect children to learn how to manage money when we don’t bother to teach them?

Got something to say?
