Insurance firm refuses to insure musicians despite leading ad man

April 29, 2009

One insurance company, Swiftcover.com, has taken on rock legend Iggy Pop to head its television marketing campaigns and try and entice consumers into contacting them for insurance cover. However, despite using a well known musician to head its campaigns it has emerged that the insurance firm has refused insurance to musicians, which has outraged many consumers.

With the advertisements being headed by the aging rocket, many people naturally thought that the insurance firm would offer cover to musicians, and were horrified to find that this was not the case. The advertisements feature Iggy encouraging people to contact the firm for cover, as he states: ‘I got it Swiftcovered. I got insurance on my insurance. Do it. Get a life. Get Swiftcovered.’

One bass guitar player who tried to get cover was refused because of his profession, and he said: ‘The customer services operator told me that they don’t insure musicians. When I mentioned Iggy Pop, she said his case was different because he is American. I’m reporting Swiftcover to the Advertising Standards Authority.’

Another musician who was refused cover also made a complaint. He said: ‘When I asked what Iggy Pop did for a living if I was being rejected as a musician, they said they did not know his personal life and he was not one of their policyholders.’
