Brits lose sleep over credit crunch

April 16, 2009

According to figures that were recently released many people in Britain are losing sleep because of the global credit crunch and its effects. The results of the recent poll have found that around 50 percent of Brits are now getting a worse night’s sleep than they were just a year ago, with the effects of the credit crunch being cited as one of the main reasons for sleepless nights.

The pool showed that the sleep patterns of around 49 percent had been affected since a year ago, with around 35 percent of respondents losing at least an hour of sleep every night. It was found that 14 percent of respondents were losing at least two hours of sleep each night compared to a year ago. The sleeplessness seems to be affecting men more than women, according to the results.

One thousand people were polled as part of the survey, and 50 percent of these said that they main thing that was worrying them and causing them sleepless nights was concerns about cash flow. The age group most affected was the 25-34 age group, with over 60 percent in this age bracket losing sleep over financial concerns.

Over 30 percent of people polled were worried about being able to make bill payments, and over 25 percent were concerned about being able to pay for food and groceries. Over 40 percent of women were kept awake due to worries about their families, and oddly 5 percent of men found themselves unable to sleep because they were thinking about Gordon Brown.
