Proof of how much Brits love their pets

March 4, 2008

Recent figures reflecting the rise in the pet insurance market over recent years is further proof of how much Brits care for their pets, and why Britain has become known as a nation of animal lovers.

Industry experts predict that, based on current figures, the pet insurance industry could be valued at £600 million by 2011, which is nearly twice the value in 2006.

An official from the Association of British Insurers stated: “It wasn’t that big a market a few years ago but now it is growing. It is a combination of how much people value their pets and that there are more providers in the market.”

Data shows that whilst only 2% of cats and dogs in the United States are covered by pet insurance, around 25% of cats and dogs in the UK enjoy this protection.

This cover enables the owner to get necessary treatment or surgery for their pet without having to worry about finding money to pay for it, which can sometimes run into thousands of pounds.

Pet insurance cover is now available from a range of providers, and this includes specialist insurance companies, supermarkets, veterinary surgeries, and even the Post Office has recently launched pet insurance cover.
