Many think that CCTV can reduce insurance premiums
March 4, 2008
According to a recent report many residential consumers are having CCTV fitted in their homes in a bid to try and reduce the chances of burglary and vandalism.
Many think that this will reduce their home insurance premiums, but industry experts have stated that this is not necessarily the case, as there is not enough evidence to show that CCTV does actually deter burglars.
One electrical retailer, Maplin, has reported a 70% rise in the sale of CCTV equipment for residential homes, and consumers have been rushing to buy one of the ninety different types of CCTV equipment available in order to try and protect their homes and reduce their insurance premiums. However, many insurers do not take CCTV into account when calculating premiums due to lack of evidence regarding its effectiveness.
There are a number of factors that determine how much you will pay for your home insurance cover, including how well your home is protected in terms of an effective alarm and locks.
Experts advise consumers to go for locks and alarms that are recommended by the insurance company, as this is more likely to result in cheaper home insurance than having CCTV fitted.
