Consumers ready to close down their accounts for inactive fees
March 19, 2007
As credit card companies are set to introduce new fees for people who have inactive credit cards, consumers are saying that they will shut their account if they do.
The news came only a couple of weeks ago and now consumers are preparing themselves for the newest fees to be introduced. The aim is to target consumers who do not use their cards and charge them an inactive fee to encourage them to either start using their card or close their account. However it is possible that these credit companies thought that people would rather pay their fees rather than close their account down.
If you are planning on switching your account, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind. One is does the company charge a fee for a switchover? Are there any good offers around? Now would be an excellent time to compare different cards and see which one is better for you. There are still a few 0% offers available for you to take advantage of if you want to.
However, if you simply do not use the card at all then it might be worth just not getting another one at all. After all, if you never use it, why clog up space in your wallet with it? If you use it occasionally then that is fair enough, but having a card which you will never use is not really worth it.
Overall these fees are going to be introduced and it seems that neither Credit Card Company nor consumers are going to be happy. These fees come on top of many others which have been introduced recently and customers really have rightly had enough. Just how bad this hits credit card companies is yet to be seen, but one thing is for sure – not many consumers will keep their accounts once the fees have been introduced.
