Financial giant American Express has recently launched a new, flexible form of travel insurance that is targeted towards students that are looking to travel in their gap year. The benefits of the insurance are that students will be able to return to the UK for up to fourteen days on the same policy, enabling them to see their loved ones and attend family events.

Students that wish to travel for a longer period can also benefit, as the cover can be extended by up to a year. UK nationals can now work in Australia for up to two years, so this policy will prove valuable to those that want to take advantage of these new regulations.

Students at present can only travel back to the UK in an emergency during the term of their trip in accordance with their gap year travel insurance cover. Officials from American Express have stated that gap year travel cover is a fast growing sector, and that this product is likely to prove very popular amongst travelling students.
