Recovery driver finds bank details of lottery winners
January 25, 2008
A recovery driver recently found a pile of documentation on a roadside near to a motorway junction, and discovered that the documentation was actually the bank and personal details of around two hundred wealthy investors in the UK, including three national lottery winners. The loss of bank account data was one in a long line of similar blunders that have taken place recently.
The paperwork and files that were found belonged to the Prudential, and had fallen from the van of a DHL courier who was taking them to a secure site. The investors that were affected by the data loss have been contacted by officials, and have been assured that their bank details are now safe and the documentation has been returned to safe hands.
One official from the Prudential said: ‘Protection of our customers’ data is of paramount importance to us and we are contacting them immediately. The key thing is that none of those customers will suffer any financial loss as a result of this. It was a delivery being made on our behalf to a secure storage facility in Essex and basically the DHL van and the box parted company at some stage during that journey.’
