Debt advice to be offered by Church of England

January 21, 2008

There are a number of counsellors and agencies that are able to provide advice to consumers in debt across the UK, but in a recent report the Church of England has announced that it will also be offering advice on this matter to try and alleviate the UK’s growing debt problem. The Church of England has started a campaign aimed at helping people deal with debt, and will be offering practical tips, advice, and prayer to help people that are struggling with debt. The Church has also put together a ten point checklist to help consumers to determine whether they are losing control of their finances. One official from the Church stated: “If a household can say “yes” to any of the statements on the checklist, it may be on the verge of encountering serious debt issues, and should carefully consider taking some of the advice included in the pages of Matter of Life and Debt.”The aim of the campaign is to try and educate consumers to spend only what they can afford rather than getting themselves into spiralling debt by making purchases that they cannot afford to make. The campaign will have a biblical angle to it, and is called ‘A Matter of Life and Debt’
