Consumers showing more consideration when choosing credit cards
January 18, 2008
New research has shown that applicants are showing much more care and attention when applying for credit cards or loans.
This is a fact supported by price comparison site moneysupermarket.com who say that over the last year there has been a significant increase in the number of consumers using its Smart Search tool during their search for credit products.
Their figures state that in December 2007 their Smart Search tool handled 371,000 card and loan applications, compared to 103,000 the same time one year previously.
Their objective with the tool is to take each individual consumer’s requirements and circumstances and match them to the most suitable loan or credit card.
The head of loans and debt at the site believes that people now see for themselves that it is best only to apply for realistic amounts or cards where there is no good reason to be rejected since every application which is rejected has a negative impact on your credit rating, which in turn may affect the outcome of future applications for financial products. This could mean a refusal or being offered a higher rate in the future.
It would seem better to spend the time and effort at the selection process when shopping for a new financial product, rather than try out for anything and everything at the risk of being rejected and risking any future negative impact on credit rating.
