Parents left to pay some of the financial burden of college and university

Parents left to pay some of the financial burden of college and universityWith university life being so expensive these days, it is hardly surprising that parents have to dip into their own pockets in order to see their children though their education. Tuition fees have long been a heated debate, with students left wondering why they have to spend so much money just to better themselves.

Obviously parents want their children to attend college and university and unfortunately most tend to have to pay for that privilege. Figures show that most parents pay around £4,000 to keep their children in education.

Although parents are helping, it seems that students also have to get themselves into debt with student loans in order to fund the rest. The average debt for university students seems to be around £10,000 although some do have significantly higher debts to worry about. This can cause problems with studying and the fact that up to 90% of students also need help from their parents shows just how hard it can be for students these days.

Of course many students do work part time in order to fund their university life, but again there is an argument that work can also interfere with their studies. So, generally students cannot win. They either suffer with a lot of debt or they take part time work and struggle with their studies. Either way their studies are affected and if they end up in debt, a large chunk of their life after their education will also be affected.

So, it is really up to the government to look at the problem and sort out these ridiculous fees. Unless something changes soon, more and more parents will have to contribute towards their children’s education and it will cause the UK’s debt problem to become worse. It is obvious that this problem cannot continue for much longer otherwise we will be in even more of a debt crisis than we already are.
